HCC Powers Up Bhutan With ₹127-Crore Hydro Project Win

Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) Limited has secured a contract valued at Rs 127 crore from Wangchhu Hydroelectric Power Limited (WHPL), Bhutan, for the execution of key construction works associated with the Wangchhu Hydroelectric Project.

The scope of the contract includes the construction of diversion tunnels, hydromechanical gates and cofferdams, which are critical components required for river diversion, water flow management and the overall development of the hydropower facility. These works are essential to facilitating the subsequent stages of project construction and power generation infrastructure development.

According to the company, the contract is scheduled to be completed within a period of nine months. The award further strengthens HCC’s presence in the hydropower sector and reinforces its expertise in executing complex infrastructure projects in challenging terrain and river valley environments.

The project adds to the company’s growing portfolio of hydroelectric developments in the Himalayan region and reflects its continued involvement in the development of renewable energy infrastructure. Upon completion, the Wangchhu Hydroelectric Project is expected to contribute to Bhutan’s power generation capacity and support the country’s long-term clean energy objectives.
